The world we see around us reflects our collective fear.
It appears that there is not much we can control; anxiety takes over, altering our experience and relationships on a daily basis. We have preconceived notions of how our lives and families should’ve been, taken out of context from another time and place. Today’s world doesn’t seem to fit that mold anymore. Instead the world appears chaotic, black and white, harsh, unfeeling, unfair. We have created this, perhaps unknowingly, and given it meaning and validity. Yet, we’d be the last ones to take credit for it.
What the world values is at most short lived if truly lived at all. It is a sandstorm we have created by valuing what cannot be valued, abandoning and disrespecting ourselves in the process, and at the end of the day we feel it because all we can think of is trying to find refuge… peace….we just want reason, calm, truth and peace.
Now, more than ever it is important to determine our own course. Many of our leaders have abandoned themselves; how can they be accountable to us in truth. We follow suit at our own peril. There may not be a lot in this world that we can control, but we do control how we conduct ourselves with honor and integrity, for what matters to us, so we can inspire our children and sleep well at night. Even if it’s just following through and doing what we say we are going to do. Following only the light, the good and the only one true. Let’s at least tell the truth to ourselves. Because that’s who we are. It will make a difference in how we feel about ourselves everyday, choosing truth over fear.
The life we choose to lead, our preferred path with the values that are meaningful in our own lives- what is more important? In the end, it is the only thing that is meaningful. Rather than joining a mixed bag of deception, greed, the longing for power we don’t know we already have, the path we choose to take, as Robert Frost so beautifully articulated, will make all the difference in the quality of our lives.
What if we told the truth about what this world is-fertile ground, to determine for ourselves what really matters. What if we acted with integrity to stand for truth and be honest with ourselves in all our relationships; if we took responsibility for our mistaken beliefs and actually forgave ourselves and others? Starting fresh! What this would take is love- for ourselves and others. Love will rush in when fear subsides.
This new world would shine with a light so bright we’d have to squint. We would be able to hear the voices of those calling to the better parts of you. From this place, we can step together relaxed into truth knowing there is nothing better. Even when walls appear to be falling all around you, you can relax into the truth of who you know you are. Seek honesty and integrity-be an example for others who want it for themselves. Watch as anxiety, loneliness and anger melt away.
Nothing in this world will survive it except the timeless-love, connection, forgiveness, the core of who we are.
Change your focus, your perception, and you will change your life.
